La stagione dei premi si apre ufficialmente con l’annuncio delle nomination dei 31° Critics Choice Awards, la cui cerimonia di premiazione si terrà il 4 gennaio a Santa Monica, California.
A guidare la lista dei nominati è I peccatori di Ryan Coogler, con ben 17 candidature che includono Miglior film, Miglior regia, Miglior attore protagonista per Michael B. Jordan e Miglior attrice non protagonista per Wunmi Mosaku. Seguono a stretto giro Una battaglia dopo l’altra di Paul Thomas Anderson, con 14 nomination, Frankenstein e Hamnet, entrambi con 11.
Sorpresa, invece, per Wicked – Parte Due: mentre nell’edizione 2025 il musical aveva conquistato la vetta (testa a testa con Conclave), il sequel si è dovuto accontentare di “sole” sette nomination. In particolare, spicca l’assenza della protagonista Cynthia Erivo – uno dei nomi per i quali attualmente si sta parlando di Oscar – dalla categoria Miglior attrice, mentre Ariana Grande è stata nominata come Miglior attrice non protagonista per il ruolo di Glinda.
L’anno scorso, i Critics Choice Awards si sono rivelati in qualche modo provvidenziali perAnora di Sean Baker, che dopo aver mancato le statuette dei Golden Globes e dei SAG Awards, si è riaffermato tra i favoriti per gli Oscar proprio grazie alla vittoria del riconoscimento al Miglior film. Anche tre degli attori premiati – Adrien Brody, Kieran Culkin e Zoe Saldaña – hanno poi fatto il bis durante la serata degli Academy Awards.
Per quanto riguarda il settore televisivo, la critica ha riconosciuto soprattutto il successo della serie Netflix Adolescence, con sei nomination, che includono quelle degli attori Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper, Ashley Walters, Erin Doherty e Christine Tremarco. Seguono Nobody Wants This, Scissione, Ghosts, All Her Fault e The Pitt.
